BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – For Dylan O’Shea, being a top scholar at Melbourne’s Florida Prep is just one facet of this dynamic young leader, who also finds caring ways to give back to people in need in his community.For his achievements, O’Shea will be honored as a 2015 Doctors’ Goodwill Foundation Junior Ambassador.

Also honored in May at an Eagle Scout “Court of Honor” ceremony, O’Shea’s Eagle Scout project benefitted the Space Coast Early Intervention Center.

His project at the SCEIC involved early childhood learning through gardening, which consisted of painting wooden planters, growing butterfly plants, installing butterfly houses as shelter and building a raised vegetable garden for the children to plant and learn about vegetable seeds.

A total of 20 scouts, parents and troop leaders spent 113 hours completing the project.

“We are very proud of Dylan’s accomplishments as a scout and how he conducts himself daily, living by the Scout Oath and law,” said his mother Annette O’Shea.

“Dylan holds himself to very high standards and accomplishes what he sets out to do.”

O’Shea is ranked at the top of his class at Florida Prep, is dual enrolled at Florida Tech this Fall and participated in Harvard University’s advanced college classes this summer.

Eagle Scout Path, Has Earned 47 Merit Badges

As is the path for many successful young people. O’Shea followed the honorable and disciplined regime of a Scout and has earned an impressive 47 merit badges to date.

Although only 21 badges are required to attain Eagle Scout status, O’Shea reached further and also served his Troop as Scribe, Bugler, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader and Troop Guide.

O’Shea was also inducted into the Order of the Arrow, which is scouting’s honor society and achieved scouting brotherhood through that organization.

Florida Prep Outstanding Leader

O’Shea has excelled academically at Florida Prep, among the leading preparatory schools in the nation, achieving straight A’s in all semesters.

Serving as president of the National Junior Honor Society, O’Shea has also led as Secretary of Future Business Leaders of America and received the school’s prestigious Founder’s Club Award earlier this year.

Doctors’ Goodwill Foundation Junior Ambassador Awards

Twenty Brevard County students, including O’Shea, will be recognized and honored at the Doctors’ Goodwill Foundation Junior Ambassador Awards, on Sunday, Nov. 1 at the Cocoa Beach Country Club.

“Dylan O’Shea’s record of academic excellence and leading by example is inspirational and we are proud to recognize him as a Doctors’ Goodwill Junior Ambassador this fall,” said Dr. Kanti Bhalani, founder of the Doctors’ Goodwill Foundation.

“The DGF Junior Ambassador Awards were established to bring awareness to the great things that our dynamic young people achieve, and the positive things that they do for others. Dylan is a shining example of a Brevard County Doctors’ Goodwill Foundation Junior Ambassador.”

Doctors’ Goodwill Foundation President Dr. Ashish Udeshi, an Interventional Pain physician with Florida Pain Institute, believes that recognizing young people like O’Shea for hard work and dedication to excellence is very important.

The Doctors’ Goodwill Foundation Junior Ambassador Awards will include dinner and awards program, featuring the presentation of special tribute films showcasing each one of the honoree’s accomplishments and contributions to society.

Each one of the honorees will also be featured in the annual Humanitarian commemorative edition of Space Coast Medicine & Active Living magazine, which will be published in October.
